Spelling

Student #1:  "What would you think if our homecoming shirts had a Santa gnome on the front and on the back it said, We've been naughty. Class of 2014?
Me:  "That's kind of cute."
Student #2:  "Yea, it'd be really awesome if you spelled naughty with a k, like in gnome!"
(silence)
Student #1:  "Gnome starts with a g."
(silence)
Student #2:  "Seriously?  The is the g silent?"
(silence)
Me:  "Yes, and so is the k."
