Signature

(Meeting with each student in the class about their grade)
Me:  "You have a 100%!  Awesome, keep it up and I know there is a line for your parent to sign the report, but they don't have to because you have an A."
Student:  "Thanks."
(5 minutes later)
Student:  "Mrs. A, does my mom need to sign the grade report?"
(me staring at the student)
Student (continuing):  "Why are you looking at me like that?  There is a line for my parent to sign, but you said they didn't have to...so...do they have to sign the report or not?"
(me staring at the student)
Student:  "Why are you walking away?"
