(Students working in groups on a poster)
Student #1:  "Mrs. A, is Paris in Italy?"
(silence)
Student #2:  "Yea.  Is it?"
(silence)
Me:  "You want to know if Paris is in Italy?"
Student #1:  "Yes."
Me:  "Paris is in France."
Student #2 (to Student #1):  "I told you!"
Me:  "Wow."

(Students working for about 5 minutes)
(The same group of students begin clapping for no reason)
(I approach)
Me:  "So, why are we clapping over here?  Did someone realize that Michigan is in the United States and not Africa?"
(silence)
Student #1:  "That's cold."
