(Students preparing to write a letter from the perspective of a settler traveling to the west. Students are also required to draw a picture representing their travels.)
Student #1: "So, like...what do I draw?"
Me: "Anything you would see back in the 1800s moving west."
Student #2: "Like a buffalo?"
Me: "Sure."
Student #3: "Horses?"
Me: "Yes."
Student #4: "Other people?"
Me (Getting agitated): "Yes. Again, anything you would see."
Student #5: "Ok, but could I draw a map of where I went?"
Me: "Sure. If you aren't a good artist, that's fine."
Student #6: "Can I draw a wagon?"
Me: (Grinding my teeth) "Yep."
Student #7: "Ok, but can I draw a donkey?"
(silence)
Me: "Sorry...no self-portraits."
