Coat of Arms

(Student in my room before school starts)
(Other students also gathered around my desk)

Student #1:  "Mrs. A, you know if you think about it, a dog is in a constant state of starting a push-up."
(Student demonstrates how this is true by mimicking a push-up)
Me:  "What makes you think of things like that?"
Student #1:  "Oh, I didn't think of it, my friend did.  He also said that if you cut your arms off, then a tank top could be a coat."
Me:  "Ummm what now?"
Student #2:  "A tank top couldn't be a coat."
Student #1:  "If you didn't have arms it could."
Student #2:  "How could you cover up your nubs?  You would have arm nubs and those would get cold.  A vest could be a coat, but not a tank top."
Student #1:  "No, it's a tank top.  It could be a coat, you wouldn't have arm nubs if you cut from the shoulder."
(Student, again, demonstrates how this would be true.)
Me:  "No one cares that this person has no arms?  We are debating the merits of vests v. tank tops?  Really?"
(Silence for a brief moment)
Student #1:  "Yea, you are right...It's a vest.  Tank tops make no sense."

  1. A vest would have the same issues a tank top would. You still have holes where no holes are needed. Now a cape...
