Student: "Mrs. A, you look tired today."
Me: "Thank you."
(silence)
Student: "I said, 'Mrs. A, you look tired today.'"
Me: "I heard you."
Student: "Why did you say, 'thank you'?
Me: "Well..."
Student (interrupting me): "I mean, it's not like a compliment. You look tired. You look like maybe you could put more make-up on or something. You shouldn't thank me for saying that."
Me: "What should I do? Cry in a corner because you said I look tired?"
(silence)
Student (thinking): "Yes."
